What is Pancake Editing?

Pancake as the name suggests can be stacked, (one on top of another) in this instance, it's the 'Timelines' that are stacked on top of each other. Then you can move your ingredients (Clips/Assets) around on to different Pancakes (Timelines).

2. How can it help with my overall Edit?

Pancake editing can really help you to edit a scene in a quick, but effective manner, allowing you to create 'Select Reels'.

Select Reels let you choose your best footage to use to create 'Rough Cut' and and later tour 'Fine Cut'

Choosing these selects at an early stage really gives you a great structure or a foundation for your edits.

3. How can I use Pancake Editing in my edit?

If you would like to use Pancake Editing in your current edit or future edits. let's start today!

Always save a copy of your edit before starting anything new, or different with your edit, so you never lose anything!
  1. Create two New Sequences > File New Sequences (There are multiple ways to achieve this, here is one).
File > New Sequence - Control + N (PC) or Command +N (Mac)

2. Create your 'Selects' sequence, this will be formatted to whatever you filmed your footage in e.g. Digital SLR >1080p > DSLR 1080p25

3. Create your 'Rough Cut' sequence, this will be formatted to whatever you filmed your footage in e.g. Digital SLR >1080p > DSLR 1080p25.

4. What are the Keyboard Shortcuts for Pancake Editing?

With Pancake editing some really helpful keyboard shortcuts are:

Create a New Sequence - Control + N (PC) or Command +N (Mac).

Zoom in on the Timeline - Shift + Scroll Wheel (On Your Mouse).
⌨️
Move between different Sequences.- Alt + Scroll Wheel (On Your Mouse) - Hover over sequence to quickly move between Sequences.
